I am a native of western NY, where I lived and worked my entire career prior to coming to North Carolina five years ago. I was the parent of two children with special needs when I decided to go back to school to become a teacher. I first obtained a degree in Elementary Education and then earned a Master's Degree in Special Education with a focus on learning disabilities. I have also earned a degree in School Leadership and have served in school administrative positions for four years.

I currently serve as a 21st Century Literacy Coach with the Lenoir County Schools in Kinston, NC. In this capacity I work with teachers to facilitate their use of research- based best practice in all content area classes and provide strategies and solutions to address the challenges teachers face. I feel this is a critical role for our public schools as true and sustaining transformation takes place in the classroom.

I have a deep passion for working with young people and have almost two decades identifying and meeting the needs of youth - touching their lives in public schools and beyond.
